Food Bridge

Food Bridge is a Capstone 11 project and student-led organization based at Larchmont Charter, focused on raising awareness about food waste and helping to reduce it by connecting food rescue nonprofits with restaurants, stores, and other establishments that may be wasting food. While many businesses already participate in apps like Too Good To Go, which offer discounts on unsold food, there is often still surplus left over that ends up being thrown away.

Our Mission and What We Do

Our mission is to bridge the gap between sources of excess food and people in need by introducing these establishments to nonprofits that already collect and distribute leftover food to shelters, food banks, and pantries. We reach out directly to local businesses, meet with them to explain the benefits of food rescue partnerships, and help facilitate their connection with the appropriate nonprofit. We also check in periodically to ensure everything is going well.

Progress so far

Food Bridge has successfully connected two local businesses, Sam’s Bagels and Groundwork Coffee Larchmont, with the Hollywood Food Coalition, a nonprofit that serves nightly meals at the Salvation Army in Hollywood. Through this partnership, around 70 pounds of food, equivalent to about 50 meals, have been rescued and served to people in need so far.
